LiftMaster Security+ 3.0 Switchover: What It Means and the New Models to Know

January 23, 2026

LiftMaster is migrating residential openers and accessories to its new Security+ 3.0 platform. The change updates how remotes pair, adds Bluetooth onboarding, and tightens counterfeit protection so only verified accessories can operate the door. See the Security+ 3.0 announcement and partner bulletin here.

Here’s what’s driving the transition and how the new product lineup makes garages smarter and more secure.

Why Security+ 3.0 is replacing Security+ 2.0

  • Stronger anti-counterfeit protection. Security+ 3.0 devices use updated cryptography and signed firmware, making it far harder for cloned remotes or gray-market receivers to spoof valid credentials.
  • Bluetooth onboarding for faster setup. New openers advertise over Bluetooth so you can pair wall controls, keypads, and initial myQ Wi-Fi setup without climbing a ladder to reach the learn button.
  • Modern remote ecosystem. The new multi-button remotes, keypads, and wall controls are designed for better range, rechargeable battery options, and clearer status LEDs during pairing.
  • Camera-ready security. As LiftMaster expands its wireless ecosystem, more openers ship with cameras or ready-to-add cameras that stream through the myQ app alongside motion alerts and timeline history.

Better day-to-day control with new remotes and keypads

Security+ 3.0 introduces remotes and keypads that pair over Bluetooth and confirm connection with clear LED feedback. Because the radio handshake is signed, the system blocks many counterfeit remotes that relied on older rolling-code exploits. If you still have Security+ 2.0 accessories, we can match you with compatible replacements so every vehicle and entry door stays in sync with the new openers.

Expanding myQ® and camera capabilities

LiftMaster is leaning into myQ for residential access, and Security+ 3.0 helps it scale:

  • Faster Wi-Fi provisioning through the myQ app after Bluetooth onboarding.
  • Integrated or add-on cameras that stream live video, capture motion events, and link to real-time open/close alerts.
  • Shared access controls so family members, guests, and service providers can have time-bound digital keys without extra remotes.
  • Better reliability for cloud features like in-app deliveries and activity history as the wireless platform matures.

What to expect during the switchover

  • Compatibility check. We’ll confirm which of your current remotes or keypads will work with the new Security+ 3.0 openers and supply replacements where needed.
  • Guided setup. Bluetooth pairing reduces ladder time, while myQ connects the opener to your home Wi-Fi for mobile control and camera streaming.
  • Training and support. We’ll walk you through the myQ app, show you how to invite trusted users, and demo the camera and alert features.

If you want to upgrade to the new platform or have questions about remotes and camera options, request an opener quote and our team will help you choose the right Security+ 3.0 model for your garage.
